Hindu lovers over the nation are celebrating Janai Purnima with much exhibit on Monday.
Every year, Janai Purnima is celebrated on the full moon day in the month of Shrawan.
The ‘Taghadharis’, conveyor of the heavenly string called Janai, take a shower in the closest stream or lake early in the morning and alter the janai given by their priest.
Devotees crowd Pashupatinath sanctuary complex, Ashok Binayak sanctuary at Basantapur, Kumbheshwor sanctuary at Banglamukhi in Lalitpur, banks of Bagmati waterway and sanctuaries over the nation counting Kathmandu valley since early morning.
There is a devout conviction that if the tagadhari wears the yajnopavit (sacrosanct string) and Raksha sutra (a string tied on the wrist) by the master purohit, at that point they will get security from negative elements.
Here are a few photographs of the celebration captured by post photojournalists Deepak Kc and Safal Prakash Shrestha in Pashupatinath and Banglamukhi sanctuary.
